The most common use of wafer brooms that you may have seen is cleaning streets. That may be the only way that you can picture it. But, there are many jobs and specific uses of the wafer brooms that you may not know.
Road Resurfacing
This is when a road is being redone. You may have seen some of these parts when driving by construction sites along roads. After the old road has the top layer stripped, they will recycle the old asphalt and put it back down. Milling is that process of putting it back down fresh. Right after that, the new surface will get a sweeping from a large broom. This broom can be either a set of convoluted wafer brooms between two flat wafer brooms or it can be a tube broom. This is a crucial step to making roads.
Trommel Cleaning
A trommel is a machine that cleans things like wood and other objects. An example would be a firewood manufacture. In this case, an excavator, or shovel truck would drop a large pile of unclean wood onto a conveyor belt. From there, the conveyor belt would run the pile of wood into a large drum that spins to clean the wood pieces. The trommel has bars with spaces between that allow dirt and wood ships to fall through. After that, the clean wood goes onto another conveyor belt for the next step. These trommels can get very dirty and wafer brooms can get them clean again. In this case, you would want a set of flat wafers to get between the narrow spaces of the drum.
Runway Snow Removal
Cleaning airplane runways so that landing is safe is another large use of the wafer brooms. Machines will patrol the runways during snowing weather and continue to clear snow. ABC Today says “Snow can cause issues during take-off, landings or even while in flight. Landing distances required are different for wet and dry runways, meaning some planes may not be able to land safely on their usual runway when snow is present.” It is very important to keep runways clear of snow and wafer brooms can be the best for it.
Construction
After construction is all done, cleaning is the next step. A small truck or machine like a Bobcat will have an attachment that allows broom pieces. This will clean the surfaces of the construction site. Some wafer brooms angle so that they can hover close to the ground and serve as a gutter broom. This can reach and clean the areas of a street or constructions site that other brooms could not.
Parking Lot Maintenance
Parking lots may seem simple but they must stay clean too. The wafer broom can be a useful tool to have when maintaining clean parking lot surfaces. One of the great things about them is that you can use them on big or small broom attachment machines. They get made based on the inner diameter of the metal ring, the outer diameter of the sweeper, and the amount needed to fill the space of the sweeper.
